In his executive career, Brian Palaia has held leadership positions at Town of Oxford, Town of Milton, Township of Vernon, Town of Ledyard, State of Connecticut Department of Economic & Community Development / Division of Infrastructure and Real Estate, University of Vermont, and The Lawn Ranger. Currently, Brian serves on a board of municipalities focused on regional planning and effectiveness. He recently completed tenure as Town Manager of a Massachusetts full-service local government jurisdiction of 28 square miles with 14,000 residents, 5,000+ households, and 3, 600 families. Successfully managing a $37M municipal budget, Brian oversaw finance and operations of 100 full time personnel, 6 bargaining units, 12 departments, and 5-member board. He re-prioritized use of state aid, increased capital expenditures, restored financial reserves, and reinstated a positive bond rating in 2 years. Securing millions of dollars in new grants for transportation, utilities, and fire improvements, he led creation of the town’s first master plan in 40 years; elevated schools and districts to level 1 and 2 performance; restructured municipal health insurance plans saving taxpayers $500K annually; and revamped IT support and software saving residents $250K annually.
Brian Palaia was an Instructor in a the University of Vermont’s Masters in Public Administration Program, teaching Local Government Management; and Founder/Principal of a landscape design and maintenance company he grew from 0 to 100 clients in 3 years.
Brian earned a B.S. in Landscape Architecture, Natural Resources, from The University of Connecticut; and an M.B.A. in Business Administration and International Relations from Salve Regina University.
